Well, my latest song, Keep Keepin’ On arrived from the studio 4 days ago. It’s always so exciting for me to hear the new one recorded by the pros back in Nashville (recorded at The 515). You have to understand that as I write a song, and ultimately complete a song, I can most always hear an arrangement, or at least a direction that I am hoping to attain for the song by the very gifted musicians and vocalists at the studio.

Yeah, I’m the writer, and more times than not I have musical riffs that are built into the work tape that I send to the studio. And yes, I always have a pre-production meeting with the studio owner/bass player and the studio producer to nail down the direction for the song. These guys give new definition to the word pro. They’re crazy good! And yes, almost every time we conclude the meeting on a song, for just a split moment I think, “Man I hope they get it! I hope this thing finishes out like I’m hearing it”! Then, a few days later it arrives, and I smile and say, “Yeah, they got it! They more than got it”!

Within a couple hours of receiving the masters of Keep Keepin’ On, I was already pitching the song to publisher listings in Nashville with the hope that one of them could find a home, an artist that would cut this thing. I sent the song 6 different directions. There were 2 of them that are “smaller” artists, and 4 of them that are “main stage big guns”. In less than 12 hours I heard back from one of the publishers that he was taking the song to one of the big guns. He thought the song is great! The next morning I heard from one of the other publishers that he was passing on the song for one of the smaller artists. Been here, done this (many times), but here’s the kicker…

Since I started getting the song out to the public, certainly including Facebook posts, I have been amazed at the comments of people (albeit mostly friends) in response to how they are connecting with this song, or should I say how the song is connecting with them. It’s speaking to them. It’s causing them to feel, and reflect. The song is already doin’ it’s job. How cool is that! Do I want cuts? Yes I want cuts! Do I want big cuts? Yes I want big cuts!! Do I want to hear a stadium full of paying fans singing the words, my words back to the performing artist? You bet I do!!! But this song, this brand spankin’ new song, the latest one that God has given me the blueprint for is already taking on a life of it’s own. Oh, and by the way, Keep Keepin’ On is up on my player here on this site. Just click the “some of my songs” tab. I hope you enjoy it…
