Songwriting, like so many other endeavors in life is comprised of a myriad of highs and lows, surprises and expected, exhilarating and the mundane, satisfaction and frustration. There are times as a writer that you might be tempted to ask yourself, “Why do I continue in this madness”? And then there are those times, those beautifully, wonderful times that you are affirmed in this crazy process to the fact that you are doing precisely what you were meant to do; create with words and melody, notes, and rhythm, harmony.

On the morning of June 2nd, 2017, on the back patio of a house sitting on the shore of Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville Tennessee, I got to experience one of those beautifully, wonderful times. I was blessed to sit and help write a song with two friends, Cindy Mechem and Jeffrey East. We titled it THE POWER OF A SONG, and as we shared ideas and thoughts with each other, and fashioned the bricks and mortar that would become this new tune, this new story, tears began to flow from three sets of eyes. It was 2 1/2 hours of time that I would not take a million dollars for, not if it meant that I had to erase the moment from my memory.

I don’t know what will become of our song. My hope is that it finds a home, and that Cindy, Jeffrey, and I can share THE POWER OF A SONG with the world in a big way. Regardless, I got to be part of a moment in time that was extra special. Thanks Cindy. Thanks Jeffrey.
